Senators organization made their NHL debut in the 1917/1918 season, the team went on to 5 first place finishes in its first 7 years.
Due to the financial woes experienced by small market teams, the Senators were forced to trade away there star players to large market teams, the biggest name of the bunch was the legendary King Clancy.
During the "roaring twenties", Ottawa Senators were one of the hottest team in the NHL winning the Stanley Cup four times. Unfortunately by 1934 Ottawa was just to small of a market team to compete with the ever expanding american markets and moved across the border to become the St. Lous Eagles.
After a 58-year absence the NHL returned to Ottawa as the Senators were resurrected as an expansion team.
In 2006, the Senators had their best season in franchise history. Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson tied for a new team record for most points in a season with 103.
